Hi, I'm Jin
Dr. Jin Sun has been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology in the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) starting from January 2023. His research has received funding from the Stanton Foundation (US), the European Research Council (ERC), the Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS), and the CUHK start-up research fund. His articles with collaborators have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the American Journal of Sociology, Global Governance, Journal of Public Administration (公共行政评论), China Reform (中国改革), among others. In 2020, he was honored with the International Geneva Award. He has received the 2023 Distinguished Article Award from the Section on Political Economy of the World System and the 2023 Granovetter Best Article Award (Honorable Mention) from the Section on Economic Sociology at the American Sociological Association (ASA). He has contributed chapters to books published by Edwards Elgar Publishing and Cambridge University Press (CUP).
His research focuses on transnational and global sociology, comparative-historical sociology, and the sociology of law and global governance. He employs various methods including fieldwork, interviews, ethnography, participant observation, and data analysis.
Dr. Sun passed the Chinese bar exam in Beijing and completed Directed Studies in Public International Law at the Hague Academy of International Law. He obtained his bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. degrees from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Harvard University, and the Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, respectively.
